The most important bullfighting event of the year in Alicante, the Levantine fair that marks the beginning of the summer.
Las Hogueras de San Juan of Alicante, are celebrated this year from June 19 to 24 in the Levantine city of Alicante. The festivities are the most important in the province and have been declared of International Tourist Interest since 1983 and of Cultural Interest since 2014.
Las Hogueras have their origin in the longest day of the year that the farmers used to harvest the crops, and the shortest night to celebrate around bonfires. From 1928 and thanks to José María Py, they were instituted as official festivities, becoming a tourist attraction and following the example of Valencia and its Fallas.
The Alicante Bullfighting Fair will be “historic” with the double presence of Morante de la Puebla and José María Manzanares who will perform 2 afternoons each, Alejandro Talavante will reappear and José Tomás will return.
