On the 24th of June, within the festivities of the Bonfires of Saint John, Alicante will dress up for an unprecedented bullfighting event. The illustrious Alba Muñoz, known as the Beauty of Fire, will lead the celebration and make her triumphant entrance into the bullring in a traditional carriage, flanked by her distinguished court of honor. For this special day, the Federation of Bonfires has announced exclusive discounts for its members.

Mare Nostrum Events, the entity managing the Alicante bullring, has formalized a collaboration with the Federation of Bonfires. The agreement establishes that Saint John’s day will be dedicated to honoring the bonfire ‘foguerers’ and ‘barraquers’, pillars of this Alicante tradition. Alba Muñoz, the ‘Bellesa del Foc’, will preside over a bullfight that promises to be historic, with bulls from the renowned Victorino Martín ranch, and her arrival will be a spectacle in itself, parading through Plaza de España in a carriage.

Nacho Lloret, director of the bullring, and David Olivares, president of the Federation, have agreed on a significant number of reduced-price tickets, available to all members of the Federation and those ‘foguerers’ and ‘barraquers’ who wish to join the festivities.

The Bonfires of Saint John have their roots in 1822 and today gather more than 10,000 people in around a hundred Bonfire and Barrack Commissions. Initially recognized as of National Tourist Interest and later International, since 2014 they hold the distinction of Intangible Cultural Heritage, an honor they share with Bullfighting.

This act seeks to applaud “the exemplarity of a collective that is the heart of our festivities and that has numerous enthusiasts of bullfighting,” according to Nacho Lloret. “There is no better occasion than the 24th of June, Saint John’s day, to celebrate the return of the bulls of Victorino Martín, after the magnificent event of the previous year.”

The bullfighters Rafael Rubio “Rafaelillo”, Manuel Escribano and Borja Jiménez, the latter acclaimed at the recent San Isidro Fair, will face the legendary bulls of the Extremadura lineage.
